In the 77-78 year the only change in comedians was the absence of Chevy Chase who finished on the 15th of January in 1977. From 1985-1990 was known as the “Lorne Returns” era because Lorne returned after quitting in 1980. 1981-1984 was known as the “Eddie Murphy Show,” because Murphy dominated the show and became a huge star. , Sarah Michelle Geller, Matthew Perry, Chris Farley, Ray Romano, and Cuba Gooding Jr. This season had guests like John Travolta, Deion Sanders, Bob Newhart, Damon Wayans, and Courtney Cox. The 1980’s saw new comedians like Tony Rosato, Robin Duke, and Tim Kazurinsky.

From 1975-1980 is known as the “Not Ready for Prime Time Players,” this was considered by many as the greatest era of SNL ever.

The return happened fast and from 1990-1994 the show had a “Comedy Explosion,” the show had its height in shows and had the fans laughing more than ever. Janet Jackson, the Smashing Pumpkins, Counting Crows, and Snoop Doggy Dog were the musical guests for the season.
