Advantages Of Having Atticus As Your Father
To Kill A Mockingbird is a book written by Harper Lee. It is a book about the main character Scout Finch
a little girl growing up in a small town called Maycomb County in the nineteen-thirties. This book shows how her
opinions change on many topics as she gets older, and how racism effects even there nice little town. The
advantages of having Atticus as a father is that he stands up for what he believes in, he teaches his children
good morals, and he believes in what is right.
Atticus would make a great father because he stands up for what he believes in. For Tom Robinsons trial they
picked him because they knew that he does'nt care about the color of other peoples skin, but he cares about
what he believes in, an example from the book is when he is talking to Scout and say's "'You aren't really a
niger-lover, then, are you?"[Scout] ''I certainly am. I do my best to love everybody... I'm hard put, sometimes-
baby, it's never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. [Atticus]''' (Lee 108) That shows
that he stands up for what he believes in even after being called names. Also even though his children and his
own life was threatened Atticus still deffended Tom Robinson in the trial.
He is very intelligent and teaches good morals. Scout is much smarter than all the kids in her class so that shows that Atticus is teaching her very well. He teaches Jem and Scout many morals in this book one is "As you grow older, you'll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don't you forget it-whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, that white man is trash." (Lee 220) Also he said how you never understand a man until you step in his shoes and walk around in them. At the end of the book Scout says after she...
