Golf: Fore Better or Fore Worse
If our ancestors have been watching us these last few decades, what do they think of our lives now? Have we been advancing into the future and making everything better? Or have we been taking things from the past and destroying them? Thinking back to the reign of Caesar, when Romans played a sport like golf by striking a feather-stuffed ball with club-shaped branches, it’s obvious that some things were better in the past. Today, millions of all around the world play a game called golf, but what they don’t realize is that it’s one of the most hazardous games on earth. Years ago, golf was a game that many could play and were happy doing so. Nowadays, instead of providing enjoyment and relaxation, golf creates stress. Golfers are constantly evaluating the situation they are in before hitting the ball. They have to compensate for the wind, how long the grass is, the slope of the ground and the weather. This continual thinking process can lead to stress. Anxiety is most often caused when a player makes a poor shot after he/she had thought it over carefully. Golf scores also cause a lot of disappoint . . .
Golfers are pressured to keep their scores low, maintain their cool when games are bad, honor their obligations to their sponsor and win tournaments. Another reason why some people leave the golf course in black bags is because of heart attacks. Although golf balls are very small, they are the most deadly element of golf. Those trying to make it to the big leagues have the pressure of getting there and then, once there, maintaining their spot on the tour. A professional will play golf throughout the whole year, and being away from home can cause a lot of stress on all members of the family. People’s score indicates how well they played and when people go way over par, they stress out because they don’t want others to know about their score. Professionals also have the problem of trying to keep their family together. Most golfers brag about their talents and then when they have to prove it, they are a nervous wreck. This is due to the fact that the extra stress is just too much for many of the senior golfers. Many people have been struck in the head and killed because they were standing too close to a person swinging a club. Because of the large swing that golfers take and the light size of the balls, when they are hit, they receive an enormous force and travel at super fast speeds resulting in injury. Excuses are very limited in the game of golf, so a high score indicates a poor player. Due to the fact then golfers are out in the open, and that golf clubs act as lightning rods, it is very dangerous to be golfing in a thunderstorm.
