Remembering the Titans
The movie Remember the Titans is one about a high school football team. However, it’s much more than that. Remember the Titans is about the struggle to succeed, not just as a football team, but also succeed in making and keeping a friendship, despite the circumstances. The team struggled for many reasons—the main one being race—but also because of having a new coach who wants them to achieve perfection. Despite the circumstances, the T.C. Williams High School Titans succeeded as a football team. The Titans were successful as a team because of leadership and dedication.Strong leadership was a key factor in the team’s success. Not only from the coaches, but the captain of the team as well. They all worked hard to motivate the players to get along and succeed as a team. Coach Boone pushed for the team to give it their all, and do as well as they possibly could. Coach Yoast, on the other hand, tried to encourage the players and didn’t believe perfection or winning was . . .
The dedication of the coaches was most important. Not only did they win state and have the perfect season, but they also successfully crossed the race barrier and create lasting friendships. In the end, coaches Yoast and Boone, as well as many players on the team, create a friendship that would last for years. Because of the players’ strong dedication, they went along with what Coach Boone told them to do. He becomes friends with Julius, demonstrating that, contrary to popular belief at this time, we really can have friendships with people of a different race. Williams High School football team was a success both on and off the field. The team also causes the town and community to realize that a school with both black and white students isn’t as bad as everyone first thought. Gerry, Coach Boone, and Coach Yoast all did a good job getting the team to succeed. Without dedication, the team would have fallen apart from day one. In fact, it’s a change for the good. He was right in knowing that this would help the team. They were willing to try their best, both on and off the field, to become a better football team and ultimately better friends.
