The Tempest
William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” is a good example on how he uses characters to create moods in the story. Also, by moods appearing we can observe how characters handle them. By doing this the characters will show the differences they have between each other. Caliban and Ariel are two characters that are different in many ways although they are under control by one man. This man is referred by the name of Prospero. Prospero acquires Ariel from the imprisonment of the witch Sycorax. Ariel now is a servant to Prospero until Prospero decides to fre . . .
He becomes Prospero’s Spirit helper/servant, after the death of Sycorax. If Calibans attitude was improve just a tad, he would be just as a friend as Ariel is and not just some ugly hard working beast. Ariel is very intelligent and capable of doing many things In conclusion, it’s easy to see why one is treated one way and the other another way. They hate each other very much but in some ways they have similarities. That was a bad move by Caliban as her and her father shuns him. Ariel has many benefits that can help Prospero and Caliban has nothing to offer him. Ariel works for prospero against his own will but eventually, he will be set free soon. Only things Caliban can do is show him around that island and do hard labor. Caliban is the only native on the island and the son of Sycorax. Also we have Caliban as a servant of Prospero. He isn’t treated to well by his master and is pinched when a curse is withdrawn. In other words Ariel is his indentured servant. He has a very odd appearance and is strange in his own ways.
