Huck Finn - PAP
If Pap was to be a better father, and role model, people would respect him and Pam might regain custody of Huck. Pap wants Huck to stop trying to get a better education, stop getting better clothes, and to stop trying to be better than him. Pap is supposed to be mature and civilized, yet he does not want Huck to better himself. When the judge took Pap into his house and dressed Pap up clean and nice, pap was so happy, he started speaking on how he had been a fool,
If Pap was not so much of a alcoholic, I think he could've been a good father, he sort of looks after Huck. If Pap were to keep trying, he would eventually re-gain respect in the community and he would be cleaned up, and regain custody of Huck. He hoped no body would look down on him. One day Pap 'kidnaps" Huck and takes him to a log cabin, and locks him up. In the end, although Pap is a complete failure, Pap shows signs that he does care about Huck in some strange ways, but he also shows signs that he wants to be a better person. That same night, Pap resorted to his old ways, and traded all his fancy stuff for liquor. "fooled his life away"; he said he was going to turn over a new leaf and "be a man no body is ashamed of". If someone would give Pap another chance, but watch him so he does not drink, Pap could be a excellent father. If Pap were to stop drinking, he could be a good man, but when he gets to drinking, he is not someone you would like to be around. People already started to respect Pap, because he was becoming civilized. After that, everybody gave up hope for Pap.
