Clash of Titans

Racism, Segregation, Black, White, and Predjuice are all words that are familiar with the United States of America. The greatest thing about these words is that they all has been over-come over a period of times, I am not saying that they don't exist anymore, because they do, but not so much. Most people of the United States surpassed the institutional idea of Segregation and Racism and becoming ONE unit. Unity is the strongest word I can describe the attitude and behavior of the majority of the people. The date is 1971, the place is Alexandria, Virginia, the event is the integration of Black and White schools, and the school is T.C. Williams, home of the Titans. Two races, Black and White: ONE school, ONE sport, ONE football team, and a few weeks at ONE camp TOGETHER. One of the players of the Titans is Gerry Bertier. Gerry Bertier is your average all-American football star, but his priorities are strong. He dislikes Blacks, calling them "Thieves," and refuses to play with them especially that a Black coach, who they call "Coach Coon, is replacing the head coach. (Coach Boone)" Gerry and the oth

On the field, they support and look out for the team as well as each other. Off the field, they demonstrate it by stopping fights in the halls against other students and team players. Gerry shows great leadership by cutting Ray (Gerry's best friend, but is racist and is hurting the team) because Ray is not helping the team, he is bringing it down, he miss the block for the quarterback, allowing him to get injured. Gerry and Julius gets into a fight because Julius puts up a poster of a Black football player holding his fist up and his head down. Racism is very powerful, racism happens all through camp, except towards the end, when Gerry realizes that they can't be a team, unless they are all on the same page. er White football players decided to play because Coach Yoast is going to stay as the Defense Coordinator. At the Mess Hall, they are divided with Blacks on one side and Whites on the other, with the exception of Louie Lastik. Gerry, who is the captain of the White team, walks up to Boone and tries to lay down the law, telling Boone to reserve half the positions for offense, front line, and special teams, and that they don't need none of "their" people on defense. If I describe the attitudes and behavior of Gerry and Julius in three words, it would have to be "Venni, Vetti, Vecci," which is Latin for, "They came, They saw, and They conquered" the idea of Segregation and Racism, and so ends the Clash of the Titans. His attitude why play for the team, when there is no team. After camp, the real world kicks in, as many people protest the bussing of Black students and the whole integration of Blacks and Whites, but Gerry and Julius use their leadership and ignores the problem as well as the rest of the team and still stays UNITED. But as camp is ending, both races becoming ONE. Segregation and Racism may be strong and powerful, but Unity conquers it. As Julius said in the movie, "Attitude reflects Leadership," which is so true, because if your attitude towards is that you don't care, that you have to commitment and no determination, then you aren't leading anything, but yourself into the ground.
