Most people know the story. It’s the story of a young girl who, for two years, was forced to live in secret hiding with her family and a family they were close to. While in hiding, she wrote in her personal diary. Years later, after everyone in the two families died, Otto Frank published the famous “Diary of Anne Frank.” Anne Frank and her diary make one of the most influential and well-known remembrance stories of the Holocaust. Annelies Frank was born on June 12, 1929. She was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. She had her parents, Otto and Edith, and an older sister named Margot. In 1933, Adolf Hitler came to office in Germany. Otto Frank moved his business and family to a place that seemed safe for them in Amsterdam, Holland. They settled their lives in newly built apartments. Anne was just like every other girl and went to school, was a good student, and had many friends (“Anne”). In 1940 the Nazis invaded the Netherlands. Otto Frank was well prepared for something like this. He had already been transforming his annex into a secret hiding place, just in case something like this were to happen.
