a short analysis to THE BEAR by Chekhov
A short analysis to THE BEAR by ChekhovDrama, a kind of literature form intended for performance at theatre, has gained popularity and appreciation among the people in the world. Because much of drama appeals to the audience and it tells an entertaining story. And the primary purpose of a drama is to hold the readersĄ¯ attention, arouses laughter or excitement. As to the elements of drama, Aristotle, in his Poetics (perhaps the most significant and influential work on dramatic criticism ever written) categorized drama into the following six elements: plot, character, thought, diction, music and spectacle. Also we can make a distinguish between drama that is serious (at least makes a pretense of being serious) and drama that is intended to evoke laughter. Serious drama is usually termed tragedy and lighter drama comedy. Anton Chekhov (1860 - 1904) is one of the most representative persons of modern theatre. Working with Stanislavsky, another towering figure of modern theatre, Chekhov achieved success as a playwright through a set of plays that portray the power and subtlety of Russian realism. Their collaboration in the Moscow Arts Theatre's productions of The Seagull, U . . .
Summary of this drama Popova is still in deep mourning seven months after her husband's death. They angrily vie with one another: "Men are rude and inconstant!" "Women are fickle and manipulative!" (It turns out that Popova's husband was actually a liar and cheat, but she remains true to his memory just to show him how faithful a woman can be. Suddenly, Smirnov arrives and rudely insists on seeing her. As Popova said her husband Ą° deceived me at every turn in the most unscrupulous way! After his death I found a drawer full of love letters in his desk, and when he was alive---itĄ¯s dreadful to remember it! ---he used to leave me alone for weeks on end. ChekhovĄ¯s influence on the modern short story and the modern play was immense. She stays alone at her country house, refusing to go out or to see anybody. Smirnov insists, makes light of Popova's mourning, and refuses to leave. But many examples have proved that it does exist love at first sight and two people can love each other in a short time. First I think that the fact Popova wore mourning several months after her husbandĄ¯s death may not because she loved her husband as much as she said or pretended, more kind of resentment which may cause, if it can, her husbandĄ¯s grieve and regret. For example, Popova powdered herself the second time she appeared. It is widely acceptable that people will more love the things or persons that they are not able to get access to. Chekhov demonstrates how close (at times) is the relationship between anger and passion, and how strange and wonderful is the human condition.
