War on Gender
“Bill”, a voice said fearfully, “Turn on your television; a plane has crashed into The World Trade Center.” All the students in my high school anatomy class glanced up to see who it was. Mr. Crockett, a biology teacher on his conference hour, had come into the room to tell us the news. “What channel?” asked Mr. Dunbar, our teacher. Our second block class watched in horror as the Trade Center stood smoking. I started getting tears in my eyes. I gasped, “Oh my gosh.” Just as I said that the second plane smashed into the second tower. Shrieks from some students filled the air. “I am in total disbelief”, uttered Mr. Dunbar, “Does anyone know someone who’s in New York right now?” “No, no, no”, we all replied. “Shhh, the news is on!” someone shouted. “We have received confirmation that a second plane has crashed into the second tower of the World Trade Center.” Little did I know the voice of Peter Jennings, the news anchor, would be forever imprinted my brain. For the rest of the class period most everyone was silent except for the occasional, “Oh my gosh” or “I can’t believe this is happening.” Feelings of fear and sadness poured over the room. BRRRING! The bell sounded as the un . . .
I never imagined having to give up my dreams and aspirations to go off and fight a war. forgettable second block came to an end. ” “Students in college don’t go though, Mr. The rest of class I mostly reflected on the events that had occurred and the continuing news reports that were being broadcasted over the TV’s. Friends were running up to each other asking if they had heard about the tragic event. “I am insulted that you would say such a thing!” I was truly angry by this point and Aaron sensed it. ” “That’s what I thought; most women don’t look at it that way either. “Calm down, I was just saying that women aren’t as strong as men physically and emotionally to go to war. What weighed most heavily on my mind was how girls wanted exceptions made to the equality that past generations of females had fought so hard to attain. “I’m sure we are all aware of the events that have occurred”, sighed Mr. Being the only daughter in my family, I have encountered times where gender issues were judged unfairly. What good would they be?” I was in total disbelief at what Aaron had just said.
