Meausre For Measure

             Shakespeare's play, Measure for Measure is a play about human nature inclination to fall from God's Kingdom. In the play, we are introduced to the character Angelo, a man who seems to be godly, noble, and highly moral man. However, no matter how devoutly committed to purity he is, he is far from perfect and destined to fall. We can chronologically trace Angelo's falling through three successions. We see him first fall in greed, then in lust, and finally his desire for power. Each one is an example that proves the sinfulness of human nature. Angelo's life truly represents the life of the sinful humans that we are, but it also illustrates God's grace for his children and his forgiveness of our disobedience.
             Even though Angelo emits a very moral and ethical personal he is still only human who is destined to sin over and over again. We can assume that Angelo has sinned many times in his life, it's only expected of him. Nevertheless, the first time we know that Angelo actually fell away from God on purpose to fulfill an earthly desire was during the time of his engagement to Mariana, when greed seeped into his untainted lifestyle and edged him towards his evil ways. When Angelo finds out that Mariana's brother who was bringing her dowry was lost at sea, and the treasure lost as well he quickly ended their engagement and disappeared from Mariana's life. We can only assume that he was only is a greedy man and was into the marriage for the money. After finding out that the money was gone, he felt that there was no point in having Mariana as his wife and quickly left her. He disappeared so fast he did not even break his marital contract with her still officially being engaged to Mariana. Angelo decides that if he ignores Mariana that maybe the situation would settle down and resolve itself.
