Life is Beautiful

“Life is Beautiful”, is one of my favorite movies of all time. Of course to me, it is so meaningful since so many of my ancestors died in the holocaust, which was the main point of the movie. Though I cannot relate even one bit to what did happen in the movie can defiantly explain how this movie is so dramatic and maybe even a little comedic.

A drama, or tragedy is said to be when there is peace at the beginning of a movie of play and it ends in war, or sadness. Since this movie follows that exact format then you could say it is a drama. But to me there are so many more reasons why this movie was so dramatic. For example in the movie on one random day the Guidos’s whole family is taken onto a train with thousands of other Jews to a concentration camp where Guidos’s wife is separated from her entire family not knowing if they are alive or dead. Everyday she has that same constant worry, that her son could just die and she would never see him again. Guidos also had that same constant worry of his wife and son disappearing from him forever, not to mention the constant worry of him dying and never being able to live again. Guidos new exactly what was going to happen to him. He knew every day he would ha

. . .

So as you could see even though Guidos was so comedic, it was him that made the hole movie so dramatic. But it was that same attitude that made his character so tragic. It was tragic because Guidos died at the end of the movie after all that he fought for. And then of course there was all the times, at the concentration camp, when he tried to convince his son that the holocaust was at a game, by translating the germans words into Italian game rules. Like the time he spoke in the speaker calling his wife Princess like he always did when they first met. He stood on a table took of his pants and told all the children how handsome he was. As well as all the times he would surprise his “princess” by bumping into her. Even though he covered up all of his worry and pain with his goofy smile and loud voice, as a watcher you could see right through him. Just that always-happy spirit made the movie seem so tragic when Guidos died and that spirit was no longer there.

But it was Guidos that lead this whole movie. And telling him all the suffering they had to do right know would let them win his very own tank. ve to work so hard carrying heavy weights and only being able to eat a slice of bread which he gave up for his son. It was his happy spirit that made his seem so tragic at the same time. It was a drama because in the worst part of the family’s life old memories of wonderful, beautiful times were brought back to them, but they knew that those memories would never happen again.
