What is Grammar
Speaking, it is as different as night and day or shall I say "whack and dope." Is it possible for today's youth to bridge the gap between today's "hip" terminologies and still keep the essence of yesterday's eloquent speech? In this paper I want to examine the basic aspects of grammatically correct speech, today's way of speaking as shared by youths in my era and explore the possibilities of combining the two. First, grammar by definition is a way of speaking or writing as judged by the conventional grammatical rules. Grammatical rules that are steadfast in making comprehension of words, thoughts and ideas more easily digestible by those who share our language. This is a constant. We know inherently that the subject comes at the beginning of the sentence followed by the predicate and more important that the two must combine in a meaningful way to make a complete thought. Dabbled between these kings of sentence structure we use "linkers or helpers" to further enhance the meaning of our thoughts. This rule wi
It should be embraced for what it is and for what it will be forever- a device used to express human thoughts and emotions. But I dare ask the question, is it vital for the words of choice to have universal acceptance? I think not. Make no mistake in knowing though that this "ultra hip" way of speaking is forever tied to the evolution of human language just like Shakespearian language is tied to 18th century English literature. But what today's patterns of speech does give are "flare and life" to a dull manner of old speaking. In closing, I feel there is no gap to be bridged between today's manner of speaking and yesterday's expressive words. " As far as combining the this modern day urban language with grammatically correct present day language, as directed by our mothers and English teachers, I must admit- it must be kept out of doors and amongst friends for now. But it is our, the people of today, responsibility to embrace such change and contribute to our evolution in hopes of better understanding the feelings, thoughts and ideas that lie in our "noggins. Finding new ways of communicating and evolving words in hopes of connecting a language more in touch with the human thought processes. Take for example the sentence, "I understand my friend, you know that I will do whatever I can to be there for you. What was the first language? Was it Hebrew, Atlantian, Serophanician? No one knows for sure, but what we do know is that some how those past dialects evolved into our modern English today. " The preceding sentence conveys the same message that the before mentioned sentence captures just stated a little differently. " This statement is simple, to the point and follows the basic rules of speaking. For it is important that every person stemming from their particular culture, regional upbringing and physical environment come to this buffet of speech bearing his or her own dish to serve to the populous.
