             Throughout Buffalo history, many controversial calls and unusually poor performances have kept Buffalo teams in all sports from completing their journey. Many have made references to a so-called Buffalo "Conspiracy Theory." We all know it would be pretty unbelievable for referees and league officials in two or three different leagues to be conspiring against Buffalo...but the following examples may make you believe a higher authority doesn't want Buffalo to succeed. The first example Buffalos misfortune would be in Super Bowl XXV when Scott Norwood's kick sailed wide right. There he stood, waiting for the snap. Hundreds of millions were watching across the globe. In the Tampa Stadium, 73,813 fans were holding their breaths in silence. The ball was snapped and Norwood made his approach to what was going to be the most famous field goal attempt in history. The ball was caught and put down properly by holder Frank Reich and the stage was set. Norwood kicked the ball and followed through, watching the ball sail into the air and towards the goal posts. For eternity, the ball inched closer and closer to the posts, and it appeared to be starting the usual curve that would make it good. When the ball was just about to reach the posts, it straightened out and sailed just wide of the right goal post. Norwood's miss not only cost him his job but made him partly responsible for Buffalo's worst sports disaster. The magnitude of Norwood's missed kick overshadows the fact that there were two crucial, undeserved penalties assessed to Buffalo which prevented them from scoring on the previous drive. Nonetheless, Norwood became the scapegoat.
             In June 1999 during game 6 of the Stanly Cup finals Buffalos dreams of a championship were again shattered amidst controversy. Game six was the second longest game in NHL history.
