Is Rap Bad for Our Society?
In the article, “Bad Rap: Music Rebels Revel in Their Thug Life”, Suzanne Fields argues that rap music is not good for young people. She believes that this kind of music brings violent images, bad behavior such as “raping women, holding gay men with a knife at their throat and helping a group of friends to take a little sister’s virginity”(200) into our children minds. I think Ms. Fields is right but she missed out some points. According to the author, rappers write lyrics about the own drama childhood, or stories how they survived in the ghettos where you can buy cracks and dopes as candy-bars. Besides, they were taught in the way that “mother fucker” is used as “hello”. Additionally, he puts in dozens of gorgeous ladies in bikinis to perfect his songs. And depending on those feelings, songs can have lyrics such as “…I love you more than I can say…. I strongly disagree with the author. itches” and “ho’s”; sleeping with men like Emiem’s ex-girlfriend. It allows people to express their feeling with ease because not everyone can sing. From old school Tupac to the latest hip-pop hero 50cent, they all did seat in the back of police car.
