Romeo and Juliet vs. West Side Story
The plays “Romeo and Juliet” and “West Side Story” have many similarities and differences. The play “Romeo and Juliet” is about two lovers that were never meant to be. These lovers were Romeo and Juliet. Although they loved each other dearly, obstacles prevented them from having any type of a relationship. This story line is also the base of the play “West Side Story.” Altogether, these two plays were interesting in many ways.Romeo and Juliet and Tony and Maria both meet at a dance. Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight at the Capulet Ball. This also happens in the play “West Side Story.” Tony and Maria gaze eyes at the community dance and find true love. These two gangs consist of two different races: Puerto Rican (Sharks) and Polish (Jets). “Romeo and Juliet” and “West Side Story” both have gangs or groups that are against each other. They just know that something happened in the past that made them hate each other. It seems that most love stories are based on the same topic as “Romeo and Juliet” and “West Side Story. In “Romeo and Juliet,” they used old English language. The Capulets and Montagues absolutely hate each other. “West Side Story” used more modern English so it was a lot easier to understand than “Romeo and Juliet. Maria was still alive when she saw her lover get shot by Chino. “West Side Story” consists of the Sharks and the Jets. It seems that every two scenes they start singing out of nowhere.
