Is Canada a Democratic Dictatorship?

Is Canada a Democratic Dictatorship?

Canada is a great country, beautiful in every aspect. The one aspect which can

probably use some work is that of government. Canada’s government which has been the

same since 1867 has not changed very much. However closer inspection reveals

Canada’s government is a democratic dictatorship because of all the power that is

concentrated around the Prime Minister. Furthermore the Prime Minister gets 2 control

spending and the budget of Canada. The one power that gives the most authourity to the

Prime Minister is the power of appointment.

The Prime Minister is the central figure in Canadian government, its position

alone is a very powerful position in Canada. The Prime Minister has four basic but very

powerful powers. The first power is the power of party leadership. What this means is

the Prime Minister(PM) decides who can be a candidate for his party at election time.

The PM can claim a mandate which means the PM can say that the people have chosen

their elected party to be government. The second power is the power of appointment.

The PM can appoint anyone to any position. The third power is the power of government

organization. The PM can create, abolish or shu

. . .
Usually the PM will dissolve

parliament at a time when government is high in popularity(public opinion). The Director of Policy and Research

assists the Prime Minister by providing policy advice and direction and coordinating the

implementation of the government’s policy agenda. The Privy Council provides support for the cabinet and the PM. That is why

Canada is a democratic dictatorship. This means the PM advises the Governor General

when to end parliament so that an election may be called. What’s more powerful than the Prime Minister’s position

is those positions around it. The senate is also appointed by the

PM, so the senate is always in favour of the PM.

No modern democratic head of government enjoys this kind of exclusive,

unchecked power. If his/her party wins the majority of

the seats in parliament he/she will become PM. The PM has all the exclusive, unchecked power

without the loss of the rights of the people. During an election the PM

is decided by the majority of seats in the parliament.
