Vote-Smart

The vote-smart website was very interesting in that it provided a lot of valuable information regarding the current representatives. The U.S. Representative from my district is Baron Hill. He attended Furman University and received his Bachelor’s Degree for History in 1975. Although his voting participation is nearly 100 percent he does not always vote with his party. Currently he is active in the Agriculture, Armed Services, and Joint Economic Committees. On issues such as abortion and education, “considered the most important [topic] in 2002” identified by the vote-smart website, Representative Hill voted 60 percent of the time with congress for the Right to Life Committee and 100 percent of the time for National Education Association. In the past three years Hill has voted congress’s “preferred position 100 percent of the time” (vote-smart IGR) concerning the National Educational Association.

But as I established earlier, overall the facts about Baron Hill were not stunning. She strongly reacted to the issues on abortion since she is against it in most cases.

Plunging into this assignment I truly did not know very much about U. I also think that he meets the prerequisite of representing my views, which is of course what he is mandate of his job. She in fact did vote for Baron Hill during the election in the 2000 campaign. resentative did however claim that in the “interest group ratings” section of the website, his party has somewhat changed their position concerning abortion from supporting it, to supporting the National Right to Life Committee. By cultured I mean that we as Americans need to learn more about the arts and have an understanding and respect for them. Views such as abortion- that it should be illegal except in certain extreme cases; and arts and humanities- in that Americans all need to learn more about art and become in a way more cultured. He and I share many of the same views. He has a level head and a Christian background, which I feel is imperative in today’s society.
