Jews and Muslims

            The Jews have had a long troubled relationship with the Muslims for many years. Many people do not realize that these two groups used to live in peace together; in fact they once respected each other's religious beliefs. When Muhammad founded Islam he taught that it was important to believe in one God, just as the Jews. Muhammad's new religion of Islam is based on many of the same principles of that of the Jewish faith. He taught his followers that it was the Jews whom they must respect and revere because it is from them that this religion has formed from. Muhammad called the Jews "the people of the book," but many if the Jews refused to recognize Muhammad as a prophet. For a brief period of time after this he was infuriated and ordered that all Jews be put to death. Muhammad took many of Jews as slaves and forced the children into child labor. Even so, Muhammad died respecting the Jews. He taught that all Jews were special peoples to whom Allah had once spoken. So, from that point on the Muslims allowed the Jews many freedoms and they lived in peace. The Jews all had good jobs and even served in the Muslim government during the Muslim rule. All in this time the Christian neighbors were being prosecuted continually. Many centuries ago it was not the Muslims that had a problem with the Jews but it was the Christians. It was the Christians who were savage, not the Muslims. Christian went on murderous rages of the Jews and ordering them out of their countries. The Christians burned sacred documents, books, and symbols. Jews were forced to convert or they would arrest and put to death for not observing the Christian faith. Most Jews what is known as "secret Jews." They practiced Judaism secretly while pretending to be of Christian faith. Even these people were somehow caught and killed.
