The Fab Four

             Why were they the most influential four persons on Earth in 1967? Why do Classical musicians and conductors compare them to Beethoven and Mozart? Why did they net $300 million last year--more than Michael Jackson who owns most of their songs--twenty-seven years after they last recorded? Why are Lennon/McCartney the most successful song team of this century? Why have they sold over a billion discs and tapes? The Beatles revolutionized the music industry and transformed rock music into what it is today. They became role models for an entire generation and left behind a legacy that should be carried in today's modern society. That is why our school should carry the name of "Fab Four High".
             To this day, the Beatles are one of the most famous and popular rock groups in the world. The Beatles include George Harrison (1943-2001), John Lennon (1940-1980), Paul McCartney, and Richard Starkey (Ringo Starr). They were born and raised in Liverpool, England. The Beatles were discovered on November 9th, 1961 by Brian Epstein, a manager of a record store in Liverpool, as well as an ex-British Army soldier. Their early music was influenced by singers such as Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. In November of 1963 the Beatles had the incredible honor of performing in front of the Queen of England. By the end of 1963 they were the biggest music group in England. The Beatles came to New York City for the first time February 8th, 1964 for three appearances with Ed Sullivan. They were an instant success. A couple of weeks later, they had the five best selling records in America. They became world famous by the end of 1964. Also in 1964 the song "I Want To Hold Your Hand" marked the beginning of "Beatlemania." They became the first recording artists anywhere in the world to have a record become a million-seller before its release.
