What is more significant? Crucifixion or Resurrection
Jesus, who is God, took the form of a man to take away the sins of Christians. John 3:16 says; "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Jesus claimed to be Lord, and was Lord. He was the ultimate sacrifice, for our sins and was needed to fulfill the law. Jesus did many things while being on earth two of the most important ones to Christians are him dying for our sins {Mat 27:1} and him resurrecting from the dead. {Mat 27:53}.Jesus dying on the cross was to be the ultimate sacrifice for the ones who believed in him. 1 Peter 3:18 says; "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,." Jesus came to earth, lived on the earth, as man. Jesus loved the world so much that he sacrificed himself for us. In the Old Testament "Prior to Jesus' coming" They would have to sacrifice Animals for Atonement {Lev. 5:18}. Jesus came to be the ultimate sacrifice, without Jesus we would have no atonement, nor could we enter the kingdom of God {John 14:6} without Jesus we could not see the father. He would have been a liar and wouldn't have been any different from any other religious leaders. Jesus had to die for our sins it was a necessity for Christians. If Jesus hadn't risen from the dead, and did not claim he would, people would say he is no great then Muhammad, or Buddha. I believe both of these things are extremely significant to our Christian religion and many people would not be Christians if it weren't for the resurrection. Jesus told the disciples that he would rise after three days. Mark 8:31 says; "He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. On the fortieth day Jesus ascended into heaven {Act 1:9}. I believe the final atonement was when Jesus physically died and said it is finished {John 19:30}. That Jesus overcame death, but couldn't Jesus of very well overcame death in the spirit, and not in physical form and still of been the messiah and final atonement. If he hadn't risen and there were no prophecies. Jesus needed to die on the cross to be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins {1 John 2:2}. Would that be that crucial of our Christian Faith? Jesus died on the cross; Jesus is no longer dead but with God the Father. Jesus could have had a spiritual resurrection instead of a physical one. It would just take more faith to be a "Christian".
