My Journey to Mexico
My youth group and I went to Mexico the summer of my freshmen year. We were curious how the trip would turn out at first. But by the end, we were happy with the decision we chose. It was amazing on the way to Mexico because I had never flown. Many things were unusual, like how they drive in the cities, what they drive, their living environment, and what they wear. Even their houses were startling to me by what they do in order to keep strangers out of their property. I saw many unbelievable things while I was on a mission trip with my church.First, we started off by going to the Tulsa International Airport. We said our good-byes and then we got on our plane. Since I had never been on a plane before, I had been looking forward to flying for a long time. The great thing was that the first plane I flew in was a small one that held about thirty people. It took an astonishing forty-five minutes to get to Dallas, Texas; I real . . .
ly enjoyed the speed and acceleration from the plane. As soon as we got on the bus, I experienced the driving madness of Mexico. When we took a shower, we could only run the water for one minute at the most. Gravity produced the only water pressure we had. They were sunken into cement and sticking straight up. I felt shocked but lucky to live in Midwestern America, for I will not ever have to worry about that sort of security around my property. But having the privilege to go on this mission trip, I learned not to complain about my possessions. The way we had hot water and water pressure is from a black one-hundred-gallon tank on the top of the roof. In addition to that there were solid iron or steel gates and window frames. On the top of every wall was a very thick line of shattered glass, bottles, windows, or whatever they could find. The house where I stayed had no carpet anywhere. In case an intruder did happen to get inside the property, this kept out any unwanted strangers or visitors. Once we got to Mexico City, we had to stay there a couple of hours waiting on a bus to take us to Pueblo City, Pueblo.
