I am Sam

When choosing a favorite movie, I am Sam definitely would be at the top of the charts. This movie has comedy and drama wrapped into one. I literally laughed and cried throughout its intirety. It's been a long time since I've been touched by a movie in this way. The portrayal of the characters and the storyline was so realistic. I believe that aspect is what made this movie so great. It was one of the highest rated movies at the time of its release. It'

Sam, like any other parent who has lost a child, gives up on everything in life. I highly recommend this movie, and who knows, after watching it, you may even change your point of view. Sam, who is portrayed by Sean Penn, is a mentally challenged single father, who is trying to regain custody of his daughter. Unfortunately, because Sam is not what society calls "normal", he was unsuccessful. Hopefully, after watching this movie, society will realize that just because someone is "different" doesn't mean they can't be "normal". s definitely one of my all-time favorites. They deserve the same respect and understanding as the next person. His lawyer goes to him and appologizes and lets him know that together they could get his life back on track. Mentally challenged and handicapped people want the same things out of life. With the relunctance of a high class lawyer, portrayed by Michelle Pfieffer, Sam goes to court to try and prove that he can meet the needs of his young daughter. Sam is able to do so, slowly but surely, and manages to get a job, move closer to his daughter, and eventually regain an ongoing relationship with her.

Unfortunately, the movie is a harsh reality as to how the handicapped is portrayed in today's society.
