It is not uncommon for women to at first resist advancements from men, who will proceed to try again, only to be slightly rejected, who will eventually succeed, should they finally impress the woman in their plight. Because they don¡¦t think alike, it is difficult to determine what message is really being sent (Lindenberg 123). Stress, headaches (and other somatic symptoms), as well as post traumatic stress symptoms often follow the events. The sexually hostile environment type of sexual harassment is much more difficult to define and there are many psychological influences that play into it. Each agency is responsible for implementing its own rules and regulations for the subject. In 1988 64% of females in the services reported experiencing sexual harassment as outlined by the Department of Defense while in 1995 the number decreased to 55% (Dorn). Next to teaching the policies, perhaps the most important aspect of training is informing employees of who to report the incident to. These statements stem from the different thinking patterns of men and women. Consultants who specialize in sexual harassment are being widely hired to give extensive training (Gerdes 23). California has even passed a law requiring employers to take steps to prevent harassment while Maine has state laws requiring seminars on the subject to be attended by all new employees. It just cannot be entirely prohibited (Gerdes 156). It effects the businesses in which it occurs and is costly on many aspects.
