College Essay
My strongest and most progressive interest has been expression through creative writing/critical analysis. Beginning with the latter, in my earlier years as a writer I found myself reading literary masterpieces such as Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet and simply employing factually based information to write my papers. I found that this was not the most in depth or beneficial method and it was reflected in the mediocre grades of some of the papers I wrote. Through the years I have learned that factually based information is not all that one needs to know and I have shed my writing "training wheels" and have developed as a more critical and analytical writer. The exploration of these studies be an asset to my intuitive growth and help to mold me into someone who is able to use his knowledge and help others from what I have learned. Some of the areas that I would like to explore further are debate/public-speaking classes, these could help me to develop and display analytical techniques and also further develop me as a person so I can convey my opinions and thoughts more expressively with more clarity through public speaking. Granted that I did have teachers who were able to help me grow as a scholar and helped me to further my intellectual horizon by provoking thoughts and ideas that in one point of my life I could not fathom. As for now my quest for knowledge is not complete. The idea of being able to completely analyze a literary work is something I enjoy accessing and studies within this department would greatly benefit me as a scholar. From this new concept of taking literature and being able to express it not only effectively, but critically and analytically, it allowed me to not only open my mind more to literature and also to be successful with the papers that I wrote. There are many things that I would like to achieve with the assistance of being a scholar and to help integrate into my personal life and possibly to help others to achieve goals that are similar to my own. I would also like to expand my knowledge through critical thinking passages in writing. Demonstrating my thoughts and ideas to others is of paramount and will not only benefit me but others as well. Through studies at Georgetown University I feel that these goals would be well within my grasp. is has opened a whole new window of writing skills that has allowed me to grow intellectually and to be able to make inferences from a piece of literature that in my earlier years I was not able to make.
