Great Gatsby

F. Scott Fitzgerald, composer of the text 'The great Gatsby' uses one of the main characters, Jay Gatsby to provide the viewer with a more defined, insightful and descriptive perspective on the American dream. The responder slowly views an unravellment of the American dream, through Gatsby's footsteps. Gatsby's dream is only half fulfilled. The American dream composes of two parts, material and spiritual fulfillment. Gatsby has only achieved half of the dream, the materialistic part, the spiritual part was not achieved thus Gatsby's dream, and the American dream was not achieved. There is a vast range of symbolism found present; probably the most outstanding is the green light. This symbol reflects the longing and desire to achieve the American dream.Gatsby had achieved basically everything in the materialistic aspect of the American dream. Gatsby has worked his way up the wealth and status chain, from poverty to a millionaire. "He was so hard up he had to keep on wearing his uniform because he couldn't buy some regular clothes" Gatsby was destined to improve his life, as from a child he was always attempting to improve himself. " "Jimmy was bound to get ahead. He always had some resolves like this or something. Do you notice

The illegal activity of bootlegging shows to the reader that Gatsby among others would resort to illegal activity to become rich. Gatsby aimed his whole life at achieving the American dream; he was not aware of his surroundings and therefore was blind. In conclusion, Gatsby had believed in the America from when he was a child. They wanted materialistic things, a good symbol of this are cars. the front door opened nervously and Gatsby in a white flannel suit, silver shirt and gold colored tie hurried in" This reflects how Gatsby dresses up to see daisy, obviously wanting to impress her. Gatsby was so caught up in his belief of the American dream that he didn't' realize what exactly was happening. Therefore the dream is never-ending. what he's got about improving his mind? He was always great for that. This is due to the post war atmosphere, the society become greedier. No doubtingly he was extremely rich, but no matter how wealthy he was, he could not attain everything he desired, most importantly he could not relive the past. However Gatsby lives in the west egg and is extremely rich. Another important symbol found in the text, which represents Gatsby's dream is his personal appearance and shirts. However there was a dilemma, at that time, Gatsby had little wealth, "Don't you know nick, rich girls don't marry poor boys" quoted by daisy, which reflects the situation Gatsby was in. Gatsby built himself up to a wealth status, in hope of impressing his true love, however he did not take into account that his true love was now married and had an offspring.
