Lady Catherine in Pride and Prejudice
Lady Catherine De Bourgh is a rich, bossy noblewoman. She is Mr Collins patron and Darcy's aunt. Lady Catherine expresses first class snobbery, especially in her attempts to order the middle-class Elizabeth away from her well-bred, rich nephew Darcy. Her character is dominating, bossy and rude and everything about her represents old-fashioned values in the way that she because she is of a high class
An example of this is when she tells Elizabeth not to marry Darcy and warns her about him, she even tries to make her promise not to. She looks down on everyone who is of a lower class than herself, is very bias towards them and orders them about constantly. She expects Elizabeth to do whatever she says and not marry Darcy. She shows her outright disapproval of Elizabeth and Darcy's relationship. She relates to other characters badly, often protruding in their lives and ordering them about telling them what to do. then therefore she is better than everyone else. She judges everyone and thinks she is superior to him or her. Elizabeth tells her that she will do as she pleases which infuriates lady Catherine. When she gets engaged to Darcy she thinks she is even more important and uses this against everyone. Although she is so cruel and dominating she does play an important part in the story because of her involvement with Darcy and then her involvement with Elizabeth and Darcy's relationship. Elizabeth's character is too strong and doesn't let lady Catherine order her about. She is a strong character and she stands out, all the other characters are polite and well mannered, she is cross, sickly and not likeable.
