             Jonathan Swift was an English author who made many literary accomplishments and lived an interesting and eventful life. As an infant he was kidnapped but was later returned and sent to school by his uncle. After his college years swift worked as a secretary when he completed his first novel. He later went on to write many famous novels including Gulliver's Travels which was his greatest success. In Swift's final years he lost his insanity before dying.              Jonathan Swift was born in Dublin, Ireland on November 30, 1667. He was the son of Jonathan Swift, Sr., and Abigail Errick Swift. Jonathan's father died eight months before his birth, leaving his mother with two children and one on the way.              nurse and not returned for three years. When swift returned back to Dublin, he was five years old and under the care of his uncle, Godwin Swift. Jonathan's early years were very exciting.
             At the age of six he was sent to the Kilkenny School, which was considered the best school at that time. He stayed there until the age of fourteen. In 1682, when he was fifteen, he went to Trinity College in Dublin. He was not a particularly good student and he tended to neglect his studies. There he received his degree in specialia gratia, meaning "by special favor." This means that his degree was given to him rather than fully earned. Swift continued his studies at Trinity as a candidate for an advanced degree. However, in 1689 he was forced to move to England because of political unrest.
