A man consumed by greed will not be able to overcome fears with a weak state of mind. This is the case in "Macbeth" written by William Shakespeare, where Macbeth's fears and actions have led him to a corrupted mind after becoming the King of Scotland. To keep his reputation alive, Macbeth takes his frustration out on blameless people. Macbeth weakness led to his downfall due to his inability to fully recover from a tragic event. In the beginning of the play, the three witches has brought to the attention of Macbeth that good prophecies will lead Macbeth to a great future. "The Prince of Cumberland! That is a step, On which I must fall down, or else o'erleap, For in my way it lies. Stars, hide you fires! Let not light see my black and deep desires. The eye wink at the hand; yet let that be, Which the eye fears, when it is done, to see" (Act 1.30-31.55-61). King Duncan's actions about Malcolm becoming heir to the Scottish throne has made Macbeth react with murderous thoughts that will become more apparent later. Despite killing Duncan, Macbeth needs to kill his friend Banquo and Fleance, son of Banquo, to keep away suspicions pointed directly at him and to secure his throne. Not only does Macbeth want to kill Macduff family, Macbeth's greed over power and is now addicted to killing. The witches start the act as Macbeth become overconfident after hearing all Three Apparitions: Armed Head, Bloody Child and a Child Crowned. Guest at the banquet becomes suspicious of Macbeth's attitude especially when Macbeth fears Banquo's ghost and starts to panic. Addiction and greed of power sets off the mood of Macbeth in Act 4. "And something from the palace (always thought That I require a clearness)" (Act 3. Macbeth was not able to fully recover from his crimes, which lead to chaos in Scotland. Completing the task of murdering Duncan will forever haunt Macbeth. The reports of Macduff contradicting the second apparition has left Macbeth shocked but will not face humiliation by surrendering.
