Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 3rd 1847.
After Bell's two brothers died of tuberculosis, and he was threatened by the disease himself, his family moved to Ontario, Canada in 1870. They moved to a spacious farmhouse in and he called it "his dreaming place". In 1872 they moved to the United States, and Bell became a professor of vocal physiology at Boston University. In 1882, he became a U.S. citizen. The reason why he devoted so much of his time to speech-related issues was probably the fact that both his mother and his wife were deaf.
Bell was active in many fields and invented a number of devices, including the photophone which transmitted speech via light waves, and of course the telephone. He was an active teacher, and spent a lot of time and energy dealing with deaf children. He especially enjoyed demonstrating various experiments from which the children could learn the basic principles of physics. He also helped found the Science magazine in 1880, he was president of the National Geographic Society from 1898 to 1904, and was made a regent of the Smithsonian Institution in 1898. Bell also designed and patented the tetrahedron kite consisting mainly of elements of geometrical shapes. Together with a group of other enthusiast, he also invented the hydrofoil, a new form of speedboat. In 1919, the HD-4 model set a new world speed record at that time (
