The Persian Gulf War On August 2nd, 1990 Iraqi military forces invaded and occupied the small Arab state of Kuwait. The order was given by Iraqi dictatorial president Saddam Hussein. His aim was apparently to take control Kuwait's oil reserves (despite its small size Kuwait is a huge...

On March 19, 2003, United States and British forces began military operations in Iraq. While addressing the nation about the purpose of the war on the day the bombing began, President George W. Bush said, "The people of the United States and our friends and allies will not live at the mercy of...

Through what in retrospect seems to be a highly manipulative and dishonest media campaign, George Bush Jr. and the United States armed forces have turned their focus on the "democratization" of Iraq. Once the necessary evidence needed to support the idea that Saddam Hussein was hiding weapons of ...

The Persian Gulf War Why Did the US Army stop short of Baghdad in Operation Desert Storm and leave Iraqi Shi'ites and Kurds more or less alone to face the wrath of Saddam Hussein? Why did a coalition of over 30 nations find it was necessary to go to war to help Kuwait after it was invaded...

IRAQ VS. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: HOW MUCH LONGER WILL INNOCENT PEOPLE CONTINUE TO DIE UNTIL SANCTIONS ARE LIFTED? In the year 1990 the Middle East was in a tense position after the attack of Kuwait by its Iraq neighbours and its' President Sadaam Hussein. This was only to beginning of w...

Without a doubt, almost all of the attempts to contain and deter the current Iraqi regime have eventually failed. The only policy that has a proven success against Saddam Hussein has been the use of military force. As the world's only superpower, the United States of America has the capabili...

I believe a war with Iraq would be a mistake. In my opinion Saddam Hussein has done nothing as of yet, to warrant such an attack. However I do believe that Saddam is in the process of hiding or developing weapons of mass destruction, and that steps necessary steps should be taken that he abid...

The state of Iraq has a turbulent history and has rarely stayed the same in its long history of different sovereign rulers over the territory. The battleground for different civilizations over centuries of political and religious rivalry, Iraq now finds itself divided into three distinct groups: the...

Not long ago there was an attack on the United States of America, on the day of September 11th, 2001. A well-known terrorist organization called Al Qaida attacked our World Trade Center. On this day many innocent people died in the Twin Towers and it started what we know as the "War on Terroris...

Ali M. Ansari's book Confronting Iran (2006) is especially timely given the current discussion of Iran and its future and concerns about what the U.S. may do to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and becoming a much greater threat. Of course, also in the news is the recent National I...

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Straddling the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and stretching from the Gulf to the Anti-Taurus Mountains, modern Iraq occupies roughly what was once ancient Mesopotamia, one of the cradles of human civilisation. In the Middle Ages Iraq was the centre of the Islamic Empire, with B...

Iraq's invasion of Kuwait The Persian Gulf War was just one in a string of wars in and near the region. On September 1980, Iraq launched a major war against Iran. This war went on until1988, and proved one of the deadliest of the century. The war had over a million casualties. And in many w...

Misunderstood Leader Oil plays an important role in the lives of Americans. In its crude form it is near useless to the average American, but after it has been refined into gasoline, oil is something they cannot live without. It is used to power planes, boats, trucks, and automobiles. However...

Several theories have been advanced by political commentators around the world about the real reasons behind the United States' war with Iraq. These include the Bush administration's "official" version[1] about preventing the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" (WMDs) from falling into the terro...

Saddam Hussein gave the order to invade Kuwait on August 2nd, 1990. He aimed to take control of Kuwait oil reserves. Iraq accused Kuwait, and also the United Arab Emirates, of breaking agreements that limit oil production in the Middle East. According to Saddam Hussein, this brought down world oil p...

The American invasion into Iraq has been a very difficult topic for American's to agree upon. The right for one country to invade another based upon unsubstantiated evidence and political differences is hard for me to understand. Even though some people would say that what we did was potential...

Yes, there is little question that Saddam Hussein is no Martin Luther King, Jr.; no question that he is no Ghandi, no doubt that he has subjugated many millions of people and terrorized his own countrymen and has little right to legitimate leadership. Unfortunately, the story is not so simple and...

Oh, my God..." That's all I could say when I turned on my T.V. the morning of Tuesday, September 11th. There I saw the image of a lone tower of the World Trade center in New York City; it's twin having collapsed only moments before..." It is hard to say if America is loved or hated. It depen...

By the use of powerfully worded speeches, and media coverage, our government instills fear and hatred of Islam into American citizens. In addition, the media and our government make every effort to justify our involvement and occupation in the Middle East. The current involvement of the United Sta...

Americans have just witnessed what may stand in historical perspective as the onset of a new era. That is, the terrorist bombing of the World Trade Center on September 11th. The World Wars represented for most people the depth of carnage, brutality and government excess that is possible wh...

The Language of War. An analysis of how understanding and support of war is constructed through media texts – specifically newspapers. In 1982 I was not old enough to fully understand what was happening when my country went to war with Argentina over a group of islands called The Falklan...

U.S. Elections The articles used to form our class research project on the U.S. Elections were based on News finding from many different countries. The basis of most of the articles was how President Bush and Senator John Kerry were viewed upon in relations with those countries. A few other thi...

You probably remember what you were doing when the Twin Towers were attacked, and some remember the day that Pearl Harbor was hit by surprise, but I'm sure that if asked what you were doing on the night of August 1, 1990, your reply would be a little more ambiguous than on the other dates. On t...

I remember my mother telling me about her trip to New York last year. She talked about how the city was just how she remembered it: Times Square, Fifth Avenue, yellow taxis as far as the eye can see. Everything was the same except for that odd patch of blue sky that now shined down onto the shops al...
