I have chosen to analyze in more detail an excerpt from bell Hook's "Killing Rage" The passage is on page 109 paragraph two. It states, "My rage intensifies because I am not a victim. It burns in my psyche with an intensity that creates clarity. IT is a constructive healing rage. Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh teaches that self recovery is ultimately about learning to see clearly." My thesis will be on how this rage is needed to solve the cycle of racism and discrimination.
             I believe this is crucial to her essay because it states how she can use the rage to learn from and express her situation. I believe Hooks view of her rage as constructive healing should show the purpose of why the rage occurs or the meaning in discrimination itself. The fact, perhaps, that discrimination is needed to end discrimination. You see, it is like the "golden rule", once it happens to a person on some level or form they learn or should learn not to do unto others the same thing. It is a tragedy to me though that it has to occur through this cycle or process. I hear people say, " I feel racism will never end because I do not think the white man will ever give up power." What makes them think that they need to take power? Would they themselves not be doing the same thing they accuse the white man of doing by taking power from the white man or asking him to give it up? It is this type of thinking that continues the tragic cycle. We need not take power from others. We must create power from within. To create our own inner connection with the divine, to build our energy from within. Those in power need not continue controlling others. They too need to stop the power struggle. They need to use that great energy not to get more from others, but for a greater cause. We need to help each other out.
