Losing Someone

Losing someone who can not be replaced by anyone else is harder than anything else. I was affected by this, learning to overcome all of the emotional disturbances that I had to face. When you lose a friend the only people that can really help you through it is your other friends, because your parents just tell you it was his own fault, and you should just be glad it wasn't you. That does not help how you feel; when this was the person you talk to when you had problems that they couldn't help you with.
It was my senior year of high school and everything was going great. My friends and I would go out every weekend and party. We never thought it was wrong to drink and drive if we only had a few, until the one horrible night everything went wrong. My really good friend Wayne and a couple of other guys decided they wanted to go get more beer, so they left. It kept getting later and later and still they didn't return. The next day I got a phone call from his mom telling me that there was an accident. She told me that they ran off the road, and smashed into a telephone post. They were driving a pick up truck, so there was not enough room in the front for all of them, so Wayne rode in the back. His mom told me that the other three guys were at the hospital in bad shape, but she wasn't saying anything about him. I asked her how Wayne was and she told me he didn't make it that he got thrown from the back and was dead when the paramedics arrived. I was in shock, and didn't know what to say or what to do, so I hung up and just started screaming.
I learned that day that I will never think like I did before, because now I see that it can happen to me or anyone else my age. After Wayne died I still went to parties, but I never drove or got into a car with anyone again. All my friends opinions changed to they decided even though we thought it was ok to drink a little and drive that it really was not.
