In "An End to Audience?" Margaret Atwood states that television has become too important in our society. She believes that television has become the storyteller to millions of children around the world, as compared to many yeas ago when stories were told by human beings. I strongly agree with her, but I would like to take it a step further. I think today's society is more interested in what happens on ER rather than what their family history is. A person can be interested in a television show, but it has taken over people's lives. Technological advances like e-mail, the Internet, and pagers have taken over many aspects of life that were once tradition and made them obsolete.
             When I was young, I used to spend my entire summer vacation in Vermont. My dad moved there when I was about eight, and for years that was where my summers were spent. We did all kinds of outdoor activities. We hiked, went swimming, mountain biked, and even did a little rock climbing. We had a lot of fun as a family and never watched television. As a matter of fact, the only channels we received were three, six, and ten, and even they didn't come in clearly all the time. To me, television was never really a big deal. I always preferred to be outside playing a sport or just enjoying the fresh air. When I spent time with my family, we got to know each other better and I heard all the stories of my father in high school and college and I would rather listen to those stories any time over watching MTV or ESPN. I like watching those channels and I do regularly, but it will never get to the point where television is my life. Many of my friends from high school have never b!
