Demographic Perspectives: Population Problems
             The world simply said is "screwed". There are just many people on our planet, and with this problem there is a drastic effects on our environment and valuable natural resources. The main two reasons for the population problems are low mortality rates and high fertility rates. I feel that though it may be hard to imply on to people with different social norms, the government enforcing one child per couple might be a good way to deal with the overwhelming population.
             Forests have a large part in the oxygen cycle that nourishes life on earth. They also protect the watersheds that support farming and influence climate and rainfall. They save the soil from erosion and are home to thousands of species, and forest peoples whose lives depend on them. The steady growth of the world's population has forced the destruction of forests, to be used for resources and make room for urban areas. Due to the overwhelming need for oil, another natural resource, accidents have been polluting and destroying the ocean, which is another important natural resource. Overwhelming use of cars on the planet is also having a devastating effect on the planet. The smog build up only destroys the ozone layer more and more as time passes.
             The population also has an effect on how we live socially day by day. The amount of people not only affects the environment but also the people itself. For instance, for the amount of people, there may not be enough jobs. Proper health care may not be provided, because there are just too many people, which may cause a lot of health problems. A child's education is also at risk because there will be too many students in one classroom for one teacher to teach. Also, some countries may experience a shortage in food because there may be such a great demand for it that the country itself may not be able to provide the food in the amounts that are needed.
