Hi everyone, how's everything at home? I miss you all so much. Momma, I miss your cooking and dad's jokes. James I think about you everyday. I want you to know that I'm going to be brave for you, because I'm fighting this war so that you will never have to go through this. I'm your big brother and I'll always be here for you no matter what!
Well, I just graduated boot camp, which actually wasn't too bad. I met a lot of guys out here and we all just clowned around. We had a lot of fun during our liberty (free time) even though the weather was scorching hot. Although I must admit physical conditioning was kind of rough at first but I got used to it.
I move to the ITR (Infantry Training Regiment) tomorrow. Everyone's packing up and cleaning their barracks. I hear ITR is ten times harder than boot camp but it goes by a lot faster. I'm scared to go to Vietnam, but we try not to talk about it too much because there's really nothing we can do about it.
Even though I'm scared to go to war I know that it's the right thing to do. I want to defend my country; it kind of gives me a sense of pride. Yet sometimes I find myself thinking: what if I crumble out there? What if I die before I get to do something great? It's tough thinking about things like that and knowing that there's a possibility they could happen. So I just keep my head up and take the wind as it blows.
I probably won't be able to write to you guys for a bit, because we go straight into an operation as soon as we get there. So I want you all to know that I love you very much and there's not a day that goes by that I don't think of and miss all of you!
Love your son and big brother,
