We always hear the news about the hacker broke into the company¡s computer system and damaged all the data. The word 'hacker¡ often used in the media, for what we should call a 'cracker¡ to refer the person who commits the computer crime. People always wrongly consider hacker as cracker, while they are two different things.
             Hacker originally refers to person who makes furniture with an axe. For recent years, it is used to describe a person who has a great knowledge and expertise in the field of computer and has a great interest in handling computer problems. One thing that the hackers usually do is they break security into a network. They want to take its sources code and rewrite the whole program in another possible way they think is more accessible. From this example, we can see that although the hackers break into the network, they make use of their computer knowledge to create a more desirable system. Moreover, we can see the three motivations for the hackers to break in someone¡s network. First of all, they enjoy in finding the holes in programs and networks. Secondly they seek for the information by poking around. Usually the hackers may put that useful and interesting information into Webpage and share with public. Thirdly, they want to challenge themselves by exploring every system in details. Some hackers may challenge themselves by writing free software that meet a widespread need of people. Sometimes they also debug other¡s free software in order to make it as good as possible.
             The job of hacker is not as same as what the media says that is to destroy the computer system. Instead, they hack into the system to perform some useful functions.
