situation became more serious in 1932 and 1933 when Bruning was replaced as Chancellor by, von Papen and von Schleicher, who were not attached to any party but who wanted to end democracy in the Republic. Article 48 of the Constitution, which ad been intended to save democracy in times of need, was now used as a weapon against democracy and thus led to the increasing support of the extremist parties namely the NSDAP.
