Of Mice and Men

             "Your nuts." Crook was scornful. " I seen hundreds of men come by in the road an' on the ranches with their bindles on their back an' that same damn thing in their heads. Hundreds of them. They come, an' they quit an' go on; an' every damn one of 'em's got a little piece of land in his head. An' never a god-damn one of every gets it. Just like heaven. Ever 'body wants a little piece of lan'. I read plenty of books out here. Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land. It's just in their heads. They're all the time talking about it, but its jus' in their head.' He paused and looked towards the open door, for the horses were moving restlessly and the halter chains clinked.
             Question: Discus the statement and quotation given in relation to the main issues raised in the novel.
             In stienbeck's novel "Of Mice and Men' there is one main theme that is highlighted, which is the universal needs of human beginnings: the need for friendship, companionship and the needs for plans, hopes and dreams. But the harsh time of this book makes it difficult for the characters to fulfill there dreams because of who, what and where they are in the novel.
             During this period of time, the poorer working class had a hard life. A lot of people were unemployed and people who were employed had very little wages and poor working conditions. This explains why people did not obtain their dreams. Due to the loneness of the workers, they would go into town and spend all their money that they earned during the month on brothels and other things. They did this because they were lonely and had no real family. Stienbeck describe this perfectly in his novel.
             "Guys like us, that work on ranchers, are the loneiest guys in the world. They got no family. They work up a stake and then they go inta town and blow their stake
