Beowulf vs. The 13th Warrior

             I read the story of Beowulf and then watched the movie The 13th Warrior. Both of these works are from around the same time period. With that, I discovered many similarities and differences between the two.
             After watching The 13th Warrior, I realized that there were many similarities to the story of Beowulf. To start off in the movie, poetry was a respected art just like warfare. This was also true in the story of Beowulf. The people in the movie also like to relax, drink, dance, and laugh as the Anglo-Saxons did. In both works, the peoples main source of transportation came from ships and horses. The so-called "monster" that haunts the communal hall in the movie also hunts at night in the mist exactly like Grendel does. The men also use the tactic from Beowulf to fake falling asleep to capture these creatures. Some of the people in Beowulf were also used in the movie, for example, Wulfgar and Hrothgar.
             I did not find a lot of similarities in respect to their religions. The only things I found were that in the beginning, Ahmed said, "I found the perfect women but she belonged to another man. This shows some aspect of Christianity because he did not commit adultery, which is one of the ten- commandments. The only other similarity I found was when Ahmed saw all the skulls and said, "These are not men." He said this because these "monsters" had killed so many innocent people. This shows he's against killing, which is also one of the commandments in the Christian religion.
             Throughout both works, there were very few differences. One small difference was that the people in the movie also used camels for transportation. In Beowulf, an outside wall protected the communal hall. In the movie, the hall lacked any form of defense such as walls or a mote. The people in the movie also mourned for their kings after their lives were no longer where in Beowulf, it was the opposite. The last
