As we pulled into the church parking lot, I remember feeling somewhat apprehensive. This would be my first stake dance since I was 14 years old. I was now 18 years old and felt very awkward being there. I have never really liked dancing very much and this would be my first church dance since I was active in church again, but I had promised a friend that I would come. Besides, I was hoping that I might meet a nice LDS girl for once. My friends and I strolled inside attempting to survey as many chicks as we could, all the while maintaining our macho bravado. In typical teenage dance fashion, we soon congregated into male and female groups along the walls of the gym. While minding my own business, I was suddenly seized upon by the gaze of a girl a few groups over. Like a Star Trek tractor beam, her eyes fell upon me until I couldn't help, but gaze in her vicinity. As soon as I had made the all important eye contact, giving her reason to approach, she made her way over to me and asked me to dance. I obliged her request and we proceeded to the middle of the dance floor. Upon getting a closer look at this fine female specimen, I noticed that she had some of the biggest eyes I had ever beheld. This caused me to question whether she actually had been staring at me or simply was staring and everyone and everything all the time. I also noticed she seemed to walk with a bit of a limp and spoke with a certain slowness that was just barely noticeable, yet noticeable enough to make you constantly question whether she might be a few eggs short of a dozen. Despite these initial oddities, I was still somewhat enamored with the fact that I was asked to dance with a, oddities aside, pretty cute girl.
