Act 4 of the Shakespearean play ¡°Hamlet¡± is the act where all the main points and sub points of the story are coming together. After the crisis in act 3, act 4 is the act where few different incidents comes together to create the mood for the conclusion of the story.
Hamlet is mainly the story about revenge. In act 1, conflict between Polonius, Ophelia and Hamlet is created when Polonius told Ophelia not to meet Hamlet. Ophelia obeys her father¡¯s words and told Hamlet not to come and see her. In addition, the ghost of Hamlet¡¯s father appeared and told him to revenge for his death. As Hamlet was planning to revenge, the conflict between Claudius and Hamlet was created. In act 3, the conflict between Polonius and Hamlet reached its limit, which caused the death of Polonius. Polonius was hiding behind the certain, listening to the conversation between Hamlet and his mother, Gertrude. When Polonius made a noise behind the certain, Hamlet pulled out his sword and killed Polonius. The death of the Polonius caused the madness of Ophelia. When Laertes returned from Paris, his sister turned mad and his father was killed by Hamlet. Laertes decides to kill Hamlet to revenge his father¡¯s death.
Fortinbras from Norway was trying to start the war with Denmark in act 1. The king of Norway stopped him from starting a war. However, in act 4, when Hamlet was banished to England, Fortinbras came into Denmark to take over the country.
The conflict between Hamlet and Claudius is a biggest conflict throughout the whole play, since the appearance of the ghost, Hamlet tries to punish Claudius to revenge the death of his father. Play within the play in act 3 shows Claudius that Hamlet knew what Claudius did to Hamlet¡¯s father. Since Claudius noticed something bad was going caused by Hamlet, he banished Hamlet.
