Anymore when students are in school, they do not get to express themselves any other way besides what clothes they choose to wear. Some students aren't allowed to wear any clothes they choose. In most school, students are not allowed to wear anything dealing with tobacco, alcohol or drugs. Taking away students' freedoms by making them wear uniforms is wrong. Uniforms do not improve any policies affecting school environments.
             A recent study was done by David L. Brunsma and Kerry A. Rockquemore to see if uniforms would work. If they do, they should see the following trends in school:
             Student uniforms behavioral problems,
             Student uniforms increase attendance,
             Student uniforms increase academic achievement.
             Academic achievement was the only factor that showed a increase. The increase was only slight, only 0.05. This goes to show uniforms will not increase any standard proposed. In the authors own words:
             "Student uniform use was not significantly correlated with any of the school commitment variables, such as, absenteeism, behavior, or substance abuse. In addition, students wearing uniforms did not appear to have any significantly different academic prepardeness, proschool activities, or peer group structures with proschool attitudes than any other students. Morever, the negative correlations between the attitudinal variables and the various outcomes of interest are significant; hence, the predictive analysis provides more substantive results. We see no relationship between wearing uniforms and the variables that do predict good behavior. (Brunsma & Rockquemere 1998)
             The authors said is this paragraph that uniform use does not work. Uniform use did not improve academic preparadness, proschool activities, or peer groups. They did see one result, and that was a negative result. The attitudes of students got worse as they went along. They so absoutley no positive results.
