             This article provided me with insight on what constitutes relapse and relapse behaviors and warning signs of an individuals at risk of relapsing as well as relapse prevention techniques.
             After reading this article, I have a better understanding of the relapse process. When I thought of the word relapse, my thoughts automatically made the correlation to drug and alcohol addictions but the article reminded me of other addictive substance and behaviors. All addictive behaviors are at risk of experiencing some degree of relapse. The article explored the commonalities of addictions in order to support research on the relapse process. I learned that in order for individuals with any type of addiction to prevent relapsing form occurring, it is important to maintain abstinence from the people, places, things and situations that caused the initial abusive behavior.
             Individuals with addictions must exhibit coping mechanism skills in order to prevent relapse. These mechanisms include self control and disconnection to preventable high risk situations that trigger feelings of weakness. The article suggests that major reasons for relapse are associated with high risk situations controlled or uncontrolled, that may occur during the time of abstinence from abusive behaviors.
             For the most part many abusers do not have the coping mechanisms needed to deal with difficult or stressful situations; this is a small part of why the problem exists. Coping skills are learned and reinforced through practice. Abusers chances of relapse decrease, if they have some degree of coping skills.
