I love shooting basketball half-court shots. I may sound like I am boasting, and I may sound
strange for talking about this skill, but I am very good at shooting half-courters. It is one
hundred percent true; I love shooting unusual shots while playing basketball.
Well, the first time that I heard about it, my nerves rushed with adrenaline. One
chance at a half-court shot for a total of five hundred dollars, during half-time of the annual
Senior/Alumni Basketball Game. Now that is a lot of money for a high school student,
almost enough money to cry over. Anyway, I heard about this chance as I was eating my
tacos and nachos at the varsity football team lunch table. Andre Walters, our free safety,
first introduced me to this contest to win five hundred dollars. Not only did I become
ecstatic because of the contest, but also in anticipation of the day of the game. That very
afternoon, after school had let out, I strode to the basketball gym to warm-up with some
half-court shots. I began to practice right away because I did not play a spring sport. After
one bare miss... BOOM! I put it right through the hoop...BOOM!...BOOM!...I was firing
them one right after the other...BOOM! I found this unbelievable. I basically had five
hundred dollars staring me in the face on that warm, spring afternoon at my old high school
gym, but I wasn't able to grab it... not yet. I couldn't believe I just nailed all of those,
seemingly impossible shots. I took a quick break to go into the canteen and tell anyone I
could find of my newly-found skill and how I was going to take that five hundred dollars
away from the school and straight into my old, worn-down, black leather wallet. Ohhh, I
couldn't wait until the contest. After my boasting was finished, Mike Messina, a friend of
mine, followed me into the basketball gym to see if I could really hit these allegedly-made
