             There was, however, very little government compared to what the British would later set up in their North American colonies. Again, this was because the Spanish settlers were there to make a fortune for their king and themselves, and make a name for themselves.
             The English were in America for an entirely different set of reasons, and it showed. The British were seeking political refuge from religious based persecution in England. In essence, they had been kicked out of the country for being far too conservative in their religious beliefs. The English settlers had no plans to go back, they and their future offspring were in America to stay.
