Girl Interrupted

Ø Here we see the girls non-verbally support and comfort each other by cheering, giggling, and smiling while they take turns bowling. While bowling, it didn't matter why the girls were in the institute they could be themselves and show support for the other girls.
Ø When Susan talks to her doctor she talks about herself using I language, but Susan asks for feedback to see if her doctor is only hearing or actually listening to her.
Ø When nearing the end of the movie Lisa, a girl who Susan became friends with, found out that Susan was being released from the hospital. Unable to cope with the loss of a friend Lisa steals Susan's diary and reads the information inside, all in a desperate attempt to keep Susan from leaving the institute. Susan, enraged by the fact Lisa read her personal diary, tells Lisa "you will never get out of this place, you are dead and this is the only place that makes you feel alive".
Ø In this quote Susan uses death to drive to Lisa the fact that she is dependant on the institute to feel like a real person.
Ø The use of death is so powerful in her language, Lisa breaks down and cries over the power and truth of the words that nobody would tell her or believe herself.
At the end of the movie Susan thanks, then hugs the nurse (played by Whoopi Goldberg), jumps into the cab and uses narration to tell the audience that 1 year later most of the girls were also released from the hospital and living good lives. "Some I did see and others I never saw again but we were always together, in our hearts". Then she turned to the driver and told him to take her home.
