Pros and Cons of Affirmative Action

             Affirmative action is active in the classroom, workplace, and society. In everyday society, does affirmative action need to be used? For a person to receive a smoother paved road because of their skin color is not justified. Even people intensely concerned about affirmative action, I said- whether for or against- rarely work hard to understand the arguments on both sides and to figure out how to persuade others (Edley 5). A minority with the same qualifications as a minority needs to have the same opportunities. Following the Civil War, Congress passed a number of laws designed to put former slaves on a rough par with white people (Urofsky 15). People in today's society feel this is their right.
             A View Form Berkeley by Chang-Lin Tien, who is the chancellor at the University of California, argues his support for affirmative action. He gives specific events in his life that he believes require affirmative action to be a. Tien refers to his experiences as a Chinese immigrant to further support his case (Tien 53). However, Tien fails to provide adequate evidence and does not elaborate on certain statements. It is hard to see how advocates of racial equality could argue that this trade-off was worthwhile (Loury 108). Affirmative action allows all citizens who complain about equal rights to receive a benefit that gives unequal treatment to all.
             Tien states that affirmative action gives more opportunities to minorities. Tien says that educational opportunities for inner-city minorities are contritely different from students in the suburbs, which are mainly occupied by white families. Tien claims a diverse community provides an improved educational environment. that it is better to have more of a diverse community. Students learn to interact with one another and all races gain knowledge from these experiences (Tien 54).
