IN "THE PRICE OF A CHILD"
             "The Price Of A Child" was one of those books that was a little hard to hold ones attention. With all the flashbacks and repetitive common phrases the novel would leave the reader kind of loss and disinterested. Lorene Cary was able to compose three major dramatization events help the reader stay attentive, in which these dramatic parts is what made the book whole. Mercer was the main character of the novel, all the dramatizations surrounded her. Mercer being an ex-slave was forced to stand for her freedom. She had to make a court appearance, in order help someone who helped her. Finally Mercer was able to fall in love, also she was able to tell her story as she maintained her freedom.
             When Mercer stood for her freedom she was in fear, she was some what confused, and elated. She was accustom to being taken care of by her master, she did not know what to do first. She had to realize that she really did not know what the future had inn store for her, or if there was any consequences for being free. Mercer had to give up her relationships with her prior friends and family back in Virginia, she formed new friends. She had to realize that all claiming to be friends weren't really true friends. All through the book Mercer went through several emotional states, but her freedom lead her to be overwhelmed with excitement. The Vigilance Committee helped Mercer obtain her path to freedom, she did not know what they expected from her, but she soon found out.
             Mercer found out that she had to help a member of The Vigilance Committee , in which he was sent to prison for kidnapping mercer and her children.
