Explore the creature's experience of human beings
             The creature's experience of human beings is, on the whole, negative. The book shows that the creature cannot be accepted into human society because of its appearance. Shelley is trying to get across how prejudiced humans can be and how they only value beauty in people and possessions. All his interactions end in rejection. However, through observing humans the creature educates himself.
             · The creature's first interaction with humans is when he meets a shepherd while searching for shelter. The shepherd flees in terror but the creature hardly notices this distracted as he is by the novelty of a building.
             · The second of the creatures meetings with humans is in a village. The creature is drawn to the village by curiosity and hunger. When the villagers see him they are terrified, some fleeing and others attacking the creature.
             · After fleeing the village the creature meets the De Lacey family. It is from the De Laceys that the creature learns what it is to be human, through the observation of the family and from experience. An example of something he learns from experience is when he decides to enter the cottage. At first he starts by having a pleasant conversation with the old man, then the cottagers return and Felix starts hitting the creature with a stick. This devastates the creature that cared for these people and admired them for their love for one another and sacrifices in time of poverty.
             'I could have torn him limb from limb, but my heart sunk within me with bitter sickness'
             · The creature then reacts by pondering why he was created.
             'Why did I live? Why in that instant did I not extinguish the spark of existence which you had so wantonly bestowed?'
             This shows that the creature has learned from these experiences and reflects on his education of what human beings are like.
